You Really Wouldn't Believe It

No, really, you wouldn't. But it's true. Every last word.

The Humans came home from work on Friday and The Guy picked up the moving truck. The Guy, Grandma E. 2.0, Skinny, and Alex started packing the truck. Curly's Twin was watching The Infant. After Curly got home they took the first load up to the new house and stacked it in the basement (great idea, right? Keep it out of the way and all). The Infant went to Skinny and The Voice's house for the night.

Saturday morning Curly and The Guy were up bright and early and started loading the truck again. Granddaddy, The Voice, Alex, Wayne, Shellie, Hayden, Jill, and Papa and Mama Matheny were all there to help load things. Mama, Papa, and Jill took breakable things and The Infant's stuff in their van to keep it clean. Grandma E 2.0 came up a little later, but she definitely didn't miss a beat. Once she got there we really got going. When The Humans got to the new house, Scott and Sarah were just leaving and Skinny, The Infant, Cassie, and Meg were waiting on us at the new house. From what I hear, that truck got unloaded very quickly. Again, most things were taken to the basement, you know, to get them out of the way.

The Humans went back to the house and filled the truck a second time and unloaded it at the new house. They started unpacking and this time remembered to bring me along. Not much really got done that first night - there was just too much to do and no one knew where to start. Curly, The Guy, and I stayed at the new house on Saturday night and The Infant stayed with Skinny and The Voice again. For some reason Curly and The Guy just laid a mattress down in The Infant's new room and we slept there. I really wanted to go somewhere else (I'm not sure where - just anywhere else), but Curly and The Guy weren't up for it. What was I to do? I cried all night so that if I couldn't sleep they couldn't either.

Sunday was more of the same; Curly, The Guy, The Voice, Skinny, Granddaddy, Grandma E. 2.0, and Curly's Twin did more packing and unpacking (still putting things in the basement). They did get the bed set up for me to sleep in on Sunday night, which was a relief. The Infant spent her first night in the house on Sunday.

Monday morning is when the fun really started! The Guy went downstairs to check the sump-pump after all of the rain. It was working but the drain in the floor was backing up a little so he came upstairs to get Curly. They went back downstairs and when they got to the basement the power went out. Yep, 6:00am pitch-black, in a basement with no windows and stuff piled everywhere. No electricity means no sump-pump. After finding their way back upstairs, Curly used the cell phone (that they didn't need in case of emergency) to call for backup. Grandma E. 2.0 and Granddaddy had to go to Curly's Twin's house to get the generator (that we didn't need right away because, really, the house probably isn't going to flood). Skinny and The Voice showed up, too and so did Papa. They got the generator up and running fairly quickly, but in that short amount of time about 60% of the basement got wet. Amazingly none of their stuff (you know, all that stuff stacked in the basement for safe-keeping) got ruined. They had to stack and restack all their worldly possessions a couple of times, but that really was a blessing.

Coincidently, Grandma E. 2.0 still had all of her carpet cleaning stuff in the basement from where she had just cleaned the carpet for me. As soon as the power was restored (about 10:00) Grandma E 2.0 and Granddaddy started sucking all of the water out of the carpet. I was assigned to guard The Infant while she slept on Curly and The Guy's bed. Talk about a long day! After moving on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and then re-moving everything, and then removing all that water they were all pooped. I, of course, didn't get my naps and finally slept good on Monday night.

So, I do have to give props to The Guy. He really is visionary. He pushed for the generator. He pushed for the cell phone. He pushed for the dehumidifier. What a Guy! You were right. We were all wrong. There, I've said it. In print. For all the world to see.

So do you believe it? They moved in and then the house floods the next day. Apparently they narrowly missed this once before (by three days) about five years ago. Nothing got ruined (except maybe the carpet). It's all true. So depressingly true. I guess in the whole grand scheme of things it's really not a big deal. It's just a little annoying because my fence has been put on hold. Oh well. Maybe they'll get it finished next week.

The Infant's First House (and my second)

So, it's all official - The Guy bought me a new house on Wednesday! We're not living there yet and I haven't even seen it yet, but I hear it's pretty nice. The plan is for us all to be living there next weekend. Sort of. I suppose it's really best that we're not moving this weekend because Curly is scheduled to work After-prom on Saturday night. She would be a bear to work with the following morning. I don't even want to imagine it! I guess this house should be closed around the middle of May. Everything seems to be going smoothly (too smoothly) and everyone is really excited. Except, I guess, The Infant. I think she would be excited but she doesn't exactly understand what's going on. She's just happy to eat her peaches and poop. I'd be happy to do that, too. Speaking of poop, she tries prunes for the first time tomorrow. Watch out, Grandma!

Also tomorrow, The Guy and Curly are going to go buy the stuff to build me a small fenced area in which to do my business. I guess they'll use a wireless electric fence to let me run and play in when they're outside with me, and put me in this pen when they're not outside. They keep telling everyone that they're afraid to just use the fence because they don't want to meet the new neighbors by returning any dead dogs. Now, I'm not exactly sure what they're implying, but it doesn't sound pleasant.

When Curly and The Infant came home from Grandma's house they went for a walk. Of course I didn't get to go, but they did let me take a few pictures of The Infant in all her Spring-time glory. I hope you enjoy the nearly-six-month-old. Hopefully soon I can get some video of her pulling up and standing. Also, like I promised, I'll get some Easter pictures up, too. I need to download them from Grandma and Granddaddy's camera and Grandma's not all too keen on me using her new camera. Hummpf. I wonder why?

What's for dinner?

Hmmm... I wonder what I should have for dinner?

Maybe lamb...

or beef...

or pork...

or chicken!

Turns out I got green beans instead.

Bummer.

Not too many details, but...

I don't really have too much to say because The Humans haven't told me much, but it's possible that I'll be living in a new house by Friday (yes, 8 days from now)! This house that I live in now went into contract yesterday and will probably be closed by the middle of May. This is really a bit overwhelming. I'm still trying to process the no-fence situation and I'm not quite sure I'll be able to handle it. I really love this house and am going to miss it terribly. I know we need more space, but really this one is home. The Humans did so much to it to get it ready for me to move in and I think they are quite fond of it, as well.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of The Infant to post today, but stayed tuned - I'm sure there will be some from Easter. Apparently the Easter Bunny already visited the house while I was sleeping and he filled The Infant's Easter basket. I walked in the dining room and the table was covered in toys and Baby Gap clothes! I'd like a new leash. Curly and The Infant went on another walk this evening and believe it or not, Curly didn't think she could handle us both by herself. I don't know why. The Infant is always angelic when on a walk and I help pull Curly along and lead her where she needs to go! Once I even wrapped her arm around a post and damaged a ligament in her arm. Hey, it's not MY fault she went on the wrong side of the post.

Ground Moles and Such

They are really a very tasty snack - ground moles, that is. I was running in Grandma H's backyard while Grandma E 2.0 and Granddaddy were cutting the grass. What did I come across but a nest of ground moles. Suddenly I hear this ear-piercing shriek that interrupts my pre-dinner snack and Grandma starts dancing around. She gets on the boob phone and calls Curly. Shortly (and I use that term loosely), Curly and The Voice come running around the corner. Caught red-handed, er, mole tongued! Well, I've already been found out for the closet mole-eating fiend that I am, why not make the most of it? So what's a dog to do - eat another mole of course! And of course this is followed by another shriek (this time it's Curly). I'm home now with a full stomach and nice big bowl of cold water. Curly is praying that she doesn't see those same moles again later tonight!

Really, who else does things this way?

The house has been a whirlwind of activity this week and the humans are moving and cleaning and yelling and painting and cutting and vacuuming and packing and forgetting to feed me like never before. I've never seen anything like it. The normally docile do-they-have-a-pulse humans are manic. I suppose it started last Sunday (6 days ago) when Curly left to "run an errand." What she really did was go to an open house. Curly had been complaining about The Guy spending too much time looking at houses on the internet so she didn't tell him where she was going. She came home 30 minutes later and told him (or asked and begged and pleaded) that they were buying a house. So they packed up The Infant and went back and looked at it again. They made an offer on the spot and it was accepted.

The whirlwind started that night and hasn't stopped since. They (along with Grandma E 2.0, Granddaddy, Skinny, The Voice, and Curly's Twin) have been cleaning and packing and fixing everything in sight. They worked that night until 11:00 pm. They put MY house up for sale on Monday. After going to the bank and doing all the other stuff everything looks like it's moving along just fine.

The only snag seems to have taken place this morning (Saturday). Thankfully, Skinny and The Voice kept The Infant last night and Curly and The Guy did some work. They actually got out of bed at a reasonable hour this morning and started doing some more work around the house. I, being the alert faithful companion that I am, alerted the humans that there was someone at the door. They were not only at the door, but trying to come IN the door. It was a realtor here to show the house. Signals got crossed somewhere and long story short they told her they needed thirty more minutes to get out of the house. That's when things really got crazy. I've never in all my 5 years seen anything like it. Curly and The Guy moved faster than I've ever seen them move before. Stuff was flying everywhere, paintbrushes were being put in strange places, Curly was dusting with the shirt she was wearing (while she was wearing it). I tell you it was a sight to behold. But, she still had time to put out matching kitchen towels! I tried to escape out the front door once, but they noticed. I'm not sure where I would have gone if I'd gotten out, but I tried nonetheless. Twenty-five sweaty minutes later we were all out of the house and in the truck.

By 2:00 pm the couple that looked at the house (the first people to look at it) made an offer! We still have to discuss a few things, but it might be promising. We'll see (I hope I didn't jinx everything by posting this entry).

Now, for the really important stuff. The first picture of The Infant was taken on Tuesday when she was waiting with Grandma E 2.0 on the front porch for Curly, The Guy, and Skinny to return from buying a bedspread (It's really nice, but I think they got a good deal on it because they still let me sleep on it). The next picture was taken about fifteen minutes ago while she was eating green beans for the first time. Click here to see the video of this monumental occasion.

Below is the house that, hopefully, I'll be living in in about a month. It is hard to tell from the picture, but it is a two car garage. I hear that the house looks MUCH bigger on the inside than it does on the outside. The only thing I'm a bit bothered by is my pooping situation. I guess the humans think I need a fence but there's not one there. They said I might be put on a chain, but I'm a little bothered. I'm not your typical West Virginia brown dog. I'm mean c'mon, what's next? You're going to expect me to sit ON TOP of a dog house?

I really love The Infant. I know I don't show too much excitement, but I really do love to play with her. Below is a snippet of what we do when we play. Click here for a second very similar video. I know this post has been all over the place, but this has been a VERY busy week. As always, we'll keep you posted.

Hangin' Tough in Hershey

Curly and Curly's Twin are absolutely mad. Like crazy, insane, mad (not angry-mad). They forced The Guy to watch all of their videos of the concert and look at all of their pictures on the television (all 135!) before he could watch the NCAA tournament and finish watching the AAA championship game. I couldn't take it anymore so I went outside to eat some grass and puke. In all of her excitement The Infant fell asleep and Curly didn't get to see her when she got home. Don't worry, I hear the twins have some big plans for her tomorrow (stay tuned, we may need your help).

Without further adieu here are the pictures you've been waiting for. I've also included links to our videos of some of their classic songs (The Right Stuff, Call It What You Want, and Didn't I). For those of you new to the internet (ahem, I'm talking to you Grandma E 2.0!) just click on the colored text that is the name of the song. If you would like an extreme close-up of the pictures below, just click on the photo.
